Most toxic Creature EVER

Man...I just watched this show on Discovery called "Killer Jellyfish", and I'm in awe.

it's about a jellyfish called irukandji. And it's the size of your thumbnail, but it has a sting thats over 1000 times more potent than a tarantula. It's the most toxic creature discored so far. VERY intense!

Just wanted to share, for those of you who like cool stuff like this, and also for those who want to be MORE afraid of the beach!!!

Found some info on-line too:
http://goaustralia.about.com/cs/prac.../irukandji.htm

This reminds me of when we went snorkeling in Bermuda back in June. We had just seen a portuguese man of war and about 5 minutes later we were in the water snorkeling!! I was stressed beyond relief!! The guy on the boat was like "don't worry- I'll let you know if I see one- you'll be ok." Plus the waves were outta control- lets just say I didn't get much snorkeling done!

Here's a link I found..

They said this thing is WAY more toxic than the Man-o-war...which I thought was the most toxic jelly there was. Apperantly not.

I watched that a few weeks ago, really interesting. It was amazing that even with immediate first aid, the woman that got stung was messed up for two weeks! That didn't look like any fun at all to me.

Another interesting thing~ Box jellyfish can not only see, but no matter what attitude they are at, they see "right side up". I didn't know that at all. Their Eye's looked like they were on some sort of gimbal. Makes me want to add a small box jellyfish to my tank.......well maybe not!

oh, another interesting fact, the stinging cells on it are not only on the tentacles, but on the crown as well.

Awsome episode. It also showed how a nemotycysts works, I have been wondering for a bit. I found it very interesting how not only were they in pain for so long, but that the pain was through the entire body not just localized to one or two areas.

If it makes you feel any better, the irujkhanji (sp?) is a box jelly fish, so at least it is not a completely new thing, just a close relative of somethhing you already knew about!

Saw it too.

Man with 9 of the 10 deadliest snakes, saltwater crocs, jellyfish, stonefish, sea snakes and whatever else will kill ya there it is too scary for me.

I will just get eaten by a Grizzly old school up here..at least they don't need a team of scientists to figure out what happened.

Sounds fun, i would have to get married just to get divorced so i could see how well it works. You Aussies are always welcome to move up here. the worst we have is rain and a few ants and small spiders. very docile place to live.
