more troubles!

Hey everyone
For anyone that didn't see my other thread my reef tank was wiped out of fish. Well my puffer in my 75g also died. Again overnight with not signs of sickness before.

Due to school and the likely hood of me moving away it doesn't make sense to fix up the 75g so I am going to drain it and sell off the rock.

Now what I dont know about is whether or not to keep my 50g reef up. Right now the coral and snails seem fine but there are no fish. I've tested everything I can think of and everything checks out.

So what would you do? Wait awhile for a possible disease to die off? Big water changes? Anything else?

Or should I just take it down as well?

I was thinking about just taking them both down but now I'm having my doubts.

Anyways any help or encouragement would be great!

I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you lost all your fish. I can totally relate--two weeks ago all of our fish except one died and I have no idea why, although it's been narrowed down to the addition of one new small piece of live rock that was "cured" but it might have caused an ammonia spike anyway. I am also wary about adding more fish! I feel your pain.

I am also very sorry to hear about your loss and frustration.

As for what to do? Am I to understand the tank no longer has ANY fish in it? That said...I'd let it run. At least for 4-6 months. Then, when that times up...you can drop a heartier fish in there...and see how he does.

These frustrating hick-ups from time to time can really get to your core...and make it hard to stick it out in this hobby. At times like this, try to remember the enjoyment you used to get out of the fish, crabs, shrimp, corals, tinkering, DIY projects, browsing for the latest gadgets, etc.

Hope you hang in there with the 50g setup. Totally understand taking down the other one. Sounds like you have a lot going on, and having 2 or more tanks, can be pretty hard at times. Just stick with the one...let whatever potential parasite is in there starve to death. And if it's NOT a parasite, and it's a problem with your husbandry, hopefully it'll show itself more clearly in that time.

Wish I had more help on what might have gone wrong.

Where ya' movin to?

i would wait for things to settle first befroe doing anything to the 50g.
think of it as a stress reliver when you think about touching

Thanks for the words everyone!

Newfishgirl sorry to hear about your troubles too.

I'm going to hang on to the 50g. The corals seem fine so I think I'll try some more coral and maybe a few shrimp.

Skeety I'm not really moving. The university programs I'm in has workterms and mine is in a different province. So I'll be away for 3-4mths.

The thing is after I get back I have a last school term. So in April of next year I'll be a universtiy graduate. At that point I may have to move away more longterm.
