More trouble in paradise !!
Hello again all,
I spoke last night about trouble in my mini reef . My lion died and my mandarin . Comments last night stated that my last inhabitants may perish too ! Well my scooter blennie was peacefully sitting on the sand bottom this morning dead. The only thing left is my bubble tip . I have posted 2 pictures as (Biowheels mini reef) on the Gallery for direction and comments . Last night the overall comment was leave it alone and wait a month or so . Looking at the tank today a couple things come to mind . Re-set all the rock in another tank (I have a 29g) at my shop .This one is a 15g in case you are not familar with me from last night . I used the 15 because it had a biowheel .Hence my name ! Now to find out that in time it will be taken out anyway . Do I fill the 29 and move the rock and add some more and let it run till January? Do I leave the 15 alone and start in January ? Take a minute and let me know your thoughts .

You could go with either tank. Just depends on which one you want to use. The 29 will allow a bit more stability. Always better to start off with a larger tank for a beginner. Either way letting the tank have time to cycle properly will give you the best success.

That's the other thread in question.
Honestly, I'd let it alone and wait until well past january. 8-12 weeks is a better idea if you're wanting to establish a nice tank. Otherwise, you're likely to experience the same issues you just went through. Also, research every single thing you plan on adding to the tank WELL before going to the LFS. Don't make impulse purchases, and understand what you're getting into. As pointed out in the other thread, a dwarf lion, mandarin, and scooter blenny are all very poor choices for additions to a 15 (or even 29) gallon tank.

I would remove it. Remind me what kind of light you have (not that it would change the recommendation, your tank is too young and having too many issues for housing an anemone).

Woefully inadequate for a bubble-tip anemone, even more reason to find it a new home or return it to the local fish store.

yes I would certainly remove it. I know that they are beautiful specimens but the tank is just not suffieint. A BTA needs high light, good flow, stabe water params and a pretty low nutrient system. If you set up the 29 it would be on the bottom end of size requirements for a BTA. You would need a quality skimmer and bright lighting and the tank would need to be set up at least 6 months before attempting a nem. The 15 is going to be too small and the water parameters too unstable for a BTA IMO

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

Sorry to hear about the scooter blenny. I was afraid that might happen but was hoping for the best for it.
The good thing is now you can take the time to begin researching what types of critters you want to keep and what their actual needs are. This should also give you time to adjust your equipment, such as lighting and filtration, to be able to handle the job when you are ready to start adding livestock.
As I stated in your other thread, I have been there before as this is the same way I got my introduction to saltwater and it is no fun at all. At least you found this site and have the chance of saving your anemone which is something I did not have.

If it is on a small piece of rock you may want to sacrifice that piece and get a replacement. Otherwise you will need to very gently find a way to coax it to release its foot from the rock without causing it any damage. Unfortunately they are not tickleish so this may not be a simple thing to do.

I have heard icing the foot can get them to release but I have never personally tried it.
