Moonlights??
Really thinking about making some DIY monlights because I am such a Nightowl and would like to watch the night time goings on without having to sit with my flashlight for hours LOL Plus, I think that nice subdued blue light is very pleasing to see. Wanting to know:
Do you have moonlights currently?
Do you like them?
Do you think they have any benefit?
No, let the fish sleep in pure darkness!!!
Also, let me hear of any DIY CHEAP,EASY plans for moonlights out there. Let me know what color you have also, blue or white?
thanks,
Jenni

3 5mm 469nm blue LEDs from sunLED. a 5v powersupply from wacky willys, 3 resistors(I"ve forgotten the value, but I"ll get back to you) and a 13" peice of 1.5" pvc, cut in half.

I don't have any as of yet. don't really know if they are a benefit to the tank, just nice for viewing things a night, I will in the future get some from lebos website.

I do have some, pending resistor replacement (go with more than a 1/4 watt ).
I don't think they have much benefit unless guided with a moon phase replicator; mine are more for my benefit.

My friend has a phase replicator and we have seen differences in the tank, more activity when its darker. Even without i have been able to get some corals to spawn by using fluctuating temperatures (not easy to do i might add)

i dont have them right now but do plan on using them on the 120. i will be getting mine from Lebos
they do have nice prices.as for effecting the tank, i dont think they will do any thing other then light the tank up unless you follow the mooncycle/phase with a timer , but by doing that you also will not see the tank all the time at night. i have not read or seen any Ill effect on the tanks either

I am also going to get some from Lebos. I am also going to get the timer for the moon phase. From what Ive read this is the way to get any benefit from them and I want to see stuff at night but Im more interested in seeing what a moon cycle will do for any spawning etc of the critters. If it doesnt work it will at least look cool!

I read recently that blue LED lights cause sleeping problems in humans. Since many of the moon lights are blue, I wonder it this is a prob for fish.
I bought a Coralife Aqua Lunar six months ago and both of the moon lights have already gone kaput. I like the light fixture with the exception of that prob.

I just looked on Lebos.com and saw the moonlights with the moon timer. That is cool. I need to get a new set of moonlights for my tank and the one with the timer to simulate the cycles of the moon is great. Its really not that much more money either. Not sure if moon cycles help the tank but I like moonlights.

I used these for my moon lights. 3 bucks at Target. Used an old cordless phone ac power adapter, used the cigarette lighter plug for a junction box and viola, adjustable moon lights. Plus they have double sided tape on the bottom for easy mounting
