Question

Moonlighting?

These moonlights (led) $27.99-$64.99 for a 2'x2' area seem quite spendy. Could you use one of those purple strip lights you see on cars? or is the led light doing something?

let the critters sleep!

why does everyone want to keep their fishies up all night, just so you can see them. believe me those critters can see a lot better than you can with even the ambient light in the house from a silly night light in the corner.

as you can tell i think they are overrated and do not do any good for the tank. how often have you seen the moon constantly on and at the same intensity all year round?

anyway, if you must there are several DIY plans to make some out of the ultrabright LED's. you can do a search in the DIY forum.

Oh c'mon Geoff, they do serve the greatest purpose.... I stop running into my tank in the middle of the night.

Plus, it helps with infants.

How about telling me how you really feel... Seriously though, you don't think they produce spawning?

if i was going to use them and for the fact that if they do help spawning then i would go with the lunar trac. they sell them on ebay all day long. they at lest go with the exact fase of the moon. they are set to the data supplied by nasa's web site. (they say at least) they sell them in 5 led's and 10 led's i beleave. they are around $90 i think i would have to check. but they come with the timer and the led's. here are a few links that might help. i check with my whole salers and they do not carry them sorry.

from what i read, and even the people at hellolights.com will tell you they dont help anything but you see the fish at night. just a bunch of hocus-pocus

The moon's gravity is what help spawning.

it is some of each. it has to be a true moonlight to help spawning. as in the intensity and duration of the light has to change. i have an ACII and i have the moonlight function activated and the light is very seldom on for viewing. the moon rises and sets at all points during the day.

a blue light on the tank at night does not make a moonlight. it just makes a blue light on at night keeping up the critters.
