With 3 yellow tangs, a powder blue, and what appears to be a purple tang in that tank, just from what we can see, I wonder why they would ever need the molly in there.

Well, this fellow is kind of an example of one with more dollars than sense I used the image just to show a molly in a reef

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

Understood. You notice I did not ask for the size of the tank or anything else in order to keep away from the inference that I am a member of the tang police.

In all fairness if you read the whole thread the guy really does learn and turns the tank around for the most part. It's funny that once the people that were being abrasive left the thread he would actually take some advice.

+1 on the lawnmower blennie. He kept the small amount of HA on a piece of rock i got from a friend in check, and he makes me laugh every time i see him scootin around the tank.

mollies poo an amazing amount of matter. if this is not removed immediately and allowed to become detritus and settle in areas that you are not able to get to easily with a siphon, then the HA problem will just keep getting worse, no matter how many mollies you add.

still acclimating four black mollies (1m 3fm) but have not released in tank yet. they are in an IO 5gal bucket getting acclimated as I increase SW salinity every 2 days.
i'll probably release them this upcoming weekend once i get up to full salinity.

i'll report back next week once they're released & see if they are munching on HA.

i'm afraid geoff might be right. i too am afraid there presence in the tank will release a ton of poop causing the HA to grow. i'm inches away from selling all my coral and drying out my LR an making a FOWLR tank after 4 years of reefing. i just cant deal with this HA anymore. if you live near Cincy there might be one h e l l of a coral sale about to happen.

Is it possible that after 4 years your rock is just loaded with PO4 and needs cooked? If that is the case drying it out will not help. Reducing your lights to the point it won't support algae is difficult even in FO... easier than a reef of course. It looks like you have really cut back on your nutrient imports and that has not starved it out... makes me wonder if it is not in the rock. I could be wrong though.

Here is another pertinent question, was the sand in direct contact with the rocks?
