Miniatus Grouper question
Hi. I recently added this fish to my tank, and just a little concerned about his behavior. At the LFS he was in a small tank w/ lots of live rock, and he was a good swimmer, meaning just peacefully swam back and forth. He was in w/ a lion and eel, which is what I have to, plus a trigger. Anyways, it's been 3 days and he just kinda seems to hide nstead of swimming. He rarely comes out, and if he does, it's like a quick lap and that's it. I'm just wondering if he will come out of his shyness eventually, or are they just naturally hiders(but why was he not hiding at the LFS??). Incidently the specimens in my tank are smaller than the ones he was housed in, and the tank is now bigger. Thanks for any help you can offer.
-Tim

groupers i believe are ambush predators, they sit in a shaded area and wait for supper, or it may be nocturnal too. not sure.
what size tank do you have it in?

Hi Andy, he's in a 150. I know by nature they are like how you mentioned, but I'm just stumped on how active he was at the store(and I've had my eye on him for weeks, and he was always just gracefully swimming, and this tank he was in certainly had tons of rock in it he could of been hiding in.) Dunno.

given how most fish stores are, he as probably freaked out really good, couldnt get happy, now that he is in a better enviroment, he is going back to his instincts. just my theory...

Fish in my experience become a total different entity once you put them in your tank. As long as he is eating I wouldn't be concerned.

in the LFS it was prolly trying like crazy to find a place to hide. that is why it was swimming around. not that it has a nice home it can go back to normal behavior for a grouper.
