Micron Socks

I recently added a micron filtering sock to my sump where my overflows flow into and removed half the bio-balls I had in that chamber two months ago. Now, it has become a pain having to rinse out the sock every two days because it gets clogged quickly. How often do you guys rinse out your filtering socks? I'm thinking about just getting rid of it but after seeing all the stuff it collects, I don't want to. There has to be an easier way. I don't mind every week but two days!

Why did you go to the sock in the first place? I just have bio-balls in the overflow all the way to the top. I have a wet-dry filter and a skimmer in the sump below to remove particulate matter and DOC's. Also, I figure if the bio-balls accumulate any junk that it will just add to the biosystem. The bio-balls do help to prevent that slurping sound from the overflow. Just my 2 cents worth.

I recently added one in my FO tank and have to clean it out once a week. I'll have to try the wahing machine trick....
Wouldn't the bleach be bad for the tank though???
