MH questions??

Hey all again,
Today I found 2 150 watt MH for sale for 2 bucks each so I bought them. My question is can I use 175 watt bulb in these or not? and why? Is there a good 150 watt bulb out there? I am gonna use only 1 setup and I am gonna use it on my 29 gal tank. The MH i bought are fully in a case. I bought them from a garden store that used them as grow lights.

Hi Hung, No you can not use a 175w MH with 150w ballast. A ballast determines the voltage to the lamp and is designed for the current that the lamp, it is supposed to run, draws. By going to a higher wattage bulb you greatly risk a fire and premature ballast failure. Even though the ballast may fire the bulb...It is not worth the risks involved.

You should be able to find some 150w MH bulbs.
Try Premium Aquatics or some of the advertisers
here at the Reef Tank.
Or do a word search for m/h bulbs on the net--
you find quite a few suppliers.
