I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, but I also dont see any ANSI information to declare that it would work.
Did you find a good deal on fixtures?

Right now HD has some good deals on all their MH and MV (MV and MH are lit by the same ballast; M57=H39-175 watt, M58=H37- 250 watt, etc). You could find the same or even a 175 for $40 or less.
Also, their may be some bare magnetic ballasts on ebay for even less.
The ballast on those type are in the top portion, above the bulb.

Check with your local lighting supply. They will have the best prices on ballast and they will have sockets and other things too.
I would research and decide what you want before calling them because some will not sell to you if they know it is for an aquarium.
The biggest problem with buying a mag. ballast online is that they are heavy and can be expensive to ship.
HTH,
Timmy

I guess that' s a down side to "Bizrate", they make it sound like the fixture's $79, I was about to jump on it, but of course, not. The fixture's $390, the bulbs $79. What a rip.
If I were contemplating this setup, I'd go and look at the fixture in Lowe's as the bulb you're asking about is a medium base, not mogul. Just make sure of that and it should work.

Yardboy, it's not just bizrate. The pendant was advertised on Drsfostersmith at $79 too when I ordered it. I was really disappointed when all I received was the bulb. I went to the web site to check it out and saw the super high price. I'm 99% sure it was an error on their part, because I doubt I could have missed that sticker price.
So I can either return the bulb, or find a ballast for it. I went to HD yesterday, but they didn;t have any 70W MH fixture in stock. I'm checking lowes today. I'll also look around for some lighting stores as timmyG suggested.
