Question

Metro Detroit LFS

Any decent LFS in the Metro Detroit area besides Tropicorium. They are great but it is nice to have alternatives. I live in the Downriver area so shops in the southern part of the area are of particular interest to me but info on any store in the Detroit area is appreciated.

Larry,
I'm also from the Detroit area, although North of Detroit. I've found several places that I have been checking out, although I don't know names of most of them.

On Gratiot between 10 mile and 696 is a place called Ocean and Seas (West side of Gratiot).
Another in in a plaza on the NW corner of 15 mile and Ryan.
Another up in Waterford.
One around 5 mile and Middlebelt with the name Pet____. I was really surprised to find saltwater there ... and good stuff it seemed. They ran refugiums mostly.

I'm not sure what to look for yet in a LFS beside good info. Most of the places I've seen that have large scale shops (large to my thoughts at least) laugh at some of the things I say from the board. One guy got mad when I said some types of bristle worms are good.

Is there a reef club down here in the detroit area?

Thanks for the info on that part of town. 10 Mile and Gratiot... That's My old stomping grounds. Lived a couple of blocks from Eight Mile and Gratiot in the late 60's.

Don't get up that way often now, but I'll have to wander up there soon and check those out.

Cool

I thought all the fish store in Detroit burned down? Just kidding. I live in Grosse Pointe and trek up to 15 mile and Ryan to a place called Aquatic Discoveries. They always have real healthy fish and you can jopin a fish club there that gets you between 10-20% of fish, food, goods..etc. I have not bought anything at Oceans and Seas on Gratiot for a while. Nice people but the fish always seem sick. All of the show tanks are connected to the same system so it would seem if fish in one tank get ich, all of them would. The one thing I detest when going into a fish store is to see dead fish lying on the bottom. It seems every time I go into O&S that's the case. Their tanks with the inverts and corals are nice though (each is on it's own closed system). I got a cool green anenome from there a year ago that still doing well.

Question

I don't know anything in Detroit, since I'm from Toledo, but there's a great place in Ypsilanti called The Fish Doctor, on the main drag. I take 23 north to the Washtenaw exit, but right, towards Ypsilanti. It may not be too far for you too.

Thanks for the replies. A good SW store is worth a little drive so I will be checking these out. Preuss sounds like a nice little road trip and the others are not that far away.

Only stores I have dealt with besides Tropicorium is Day One on West Rd. in Trenton, and The Pet Station on Telegraph in Dearborn Hgts. and I'm not realy satisfied with them.
