Melted Xenia
One of my xenia stalks has melted! completely. The 3 other stalks right next to it are fine, and so are all the other corals and fish. Params are all fine and as far as i know, there wasn't a big temp, SG or pH swing.
Any ideas what may have caused this meltdown?
thx!

About 2 years. The other stalks are actually it's parent or offspring, and they're fine.

Have you ever heard of a Xenia Crash? My friend has had this happen twice, where all the xenia (except sometimes a few stalks) just melt down for no real reason. It is thought that some element got depleated and the xenia just die, but that is wild speculation, and I have never seen anything even verging on proof.
Maybe a small scale version of that?
You might want to do a water change anyway.

I would leave the leftovers there, they might grow back.

i wouldn't be surprised if they did. i often find that if i abuse a coral, it grows back with a vengeance. I had a blasto frag that had one head for like a year... it never changed. one day it fell behind the rocks and i lost it. about 4 months ago i found it, and it had started growing new heads all around. now those heads are growing and are getting big. cool stuff.

This has happened twice to me.
Both times it happened right after I purchased and added the Xenia into my tank. The simply disappeared. I found them later growing back in random spots throughout the live rock. I thought the crab had gotten it.
