Question

Mechl.filtraction for messy eater FO tank

here's my question,,,my other tank is a 180 FO w/:
2 Morays-3ft
Porc Puffer-5in.
Queen Angel 9-10 in.
Volitan Lion-adult size
Clown Trigger-7-8 in.
filtration since i've had the tank (10-12 yrs) has been(i know) a wet-dry sump,
top tray has foam pads
other trays have coral pieces
wet part of the sump is filled to the gills(pun intended) with bio-balls.
bag o carbon in sump too.
water quality is normally fine,
problem is,as some of you might already know ,these fish love to eat! ,and eat "messy"foods ,,,clams, silversides, squid, anything frozen,,pelleted food(big)
with the pellets, and some of the other food,(if i do not turn off pump) food does get into the overflows and into the wet-dry pads, adding to the load of the filter,,
and with all the food they want,,(i tend to hold back feeding for the sake of water quality)
the day after a good feeding of everyone, the tank tends to show the results with elimination...
when i feed them "correctly"(they always seem/need to be fed.)
i run a Magnum 350 with diatom powder w/ powdered carbon.
the magnum is in front of the tank on the floor,,only unsightly to non-reefers,LOL
long story short,,,,any ideas as to what i could use, maybe something to run outside the sump, using it to filter the sump water , to offset the bio-load on the filter.
tank is fine if i space/hold back feeding a bit,,plus i gotta keep the eels happy or they get ornry.
and the queen's gotta graze,,and the clown triggers gotta get enuf food in him to keep his belly from getting pinched(meaty foods)
the lion-puffer, well, they are just pigs!
the tank is acrylic, but don't really want to drill more holes for something along the lines of a Rainbow canister filter deal.
sorry for the long post,,,just wondering,,,

Impatient little bugger, aren't you? LOL

Jeff, I would go to Wally World and get bags of that poly quilting batting. Stick a wad of it in the top of the wet/dry when you feed and then just throw it away a few hours later.
You have a lot of flow through that wet/dry, right?

Hi Jeff, have you thought about using a good protein skimmer, it should heip breakdown the waste in the water so your bio filter in your sump will have less waste to deal with.

Even better Jerel,,'member the Marineland brand of blue filter pads in the LFS? i have it(same stuff) at work,,only it 3 ft wide on about a 50 ft roll! use it at work for filtering air flow thru our PLC(programable logic controller)and drive packages,,,,so i change the pads quite often hehehehe also, i turn off the pump 80% of the time,,and let the water level drop down to the bulkheads...
Green Chromis-have thought of it,,,but never acted on it
mebbe i'll find a Berlin turbo in the trunk of the TRT mobile! heheheh
Jerel- got a Mag 24 on the return,,,,,,,good return flow, much more it becomes a torrent,,,
