Mean Clown!

Ok I'll give you a lil history on the tank. first fish was a Mimic Tang, a week later a GSM, about a month after that I got a Seabe Clown. and some other fish later.

when I got the GSM I also got a Seabe Anemone. The GSM never took to it So I got a Seabe Clown. he hosted immediatly. Well about 6 weeks later the anemone died no MH. The 2 clowns were happy together. Since I got MH now I got a Green Carpet Anemone this weekend. The Seabe LOVES it took to it right away. The GSM never looked at it and doesn;t even get close. He stays on the other side of the tank. The 2 clowns are about the same size but now the Seabe is really mean. darting after the GSM from the other side of the tank. The GSM doesnt even get close. He'll be hiding behind the overflow and the seabe will still charge him. I don't want to get rid of either one but I fear the GSM will get killed. I am in the process of setting up another tank ( a display refuge) I could put the GSM in there. Will the seabe settle down after it realized the GSM doesn't want his anemone? The seabe doesn't mess with any other fish.

It is possible but not probable that the sebae will stop attacking the GSM.

Best bet is to move the GSM or add another small anemone.
I did this for the 4 pecula clowns, now 2 share large LTA and others have small BTA's, much less aggression in tank.

I'm not sure if he will settle down or not,.. but I can tell you that there's no doubt that clowns are mean,.. We had some very long threads about that

My friend has a couple maroon clowns in a Seabae and they are very visious about protecting there anonomie. My friend will be getting rid of his clowns soon too, they even attack the mag float as he runns it across the front glass!

That's iffy. Different clowns in the same tank often doesn't work. Now that the seabe has a host he has something to defend wether the gsm wants anything to do with it or not he is in someone else territory. I would let the gsm live in peace in the refugium.

The GSM has never hosted or even tried to host in a coral or anything. Should I even bother getting another Anemone? I would like to get a BTA green or rose. I should have no problem getting the GSM out.

If you want to get a BTA anyway,.. why not give it a try? Couldn't hurt,.. if nothing else your existing clown might jump back and forth between the two,.. that's cool

Oh yeah! probally not. It's going to have just 2 24" PC or T5. I plan to add seahorses in a while and I don't want too much light. and I dont want it to end up looking like Macro soup. Probally not going to be able to add an anemone. Maybe a Condy?

Would the seahorses try and hitch to the condy and get eaten?

I'll have to agree on clowns getting aggressive after adding an anemone. I have a cinnamon clown that didn't have an anemone to host. So I got a rather large BTA. Now he attacks me everytime I try to feed or clean or anything that requires my hands in the tank. The other fish have learned not to go near the anemone, so lucily there is no aggression with other fish.

Before the anemone, he never paid attention to anything that went into the tank.

Clowns are weird!!! You would think that when theres no anemone the would be aggressive because there homeless. When they get a anemone they sould be happy and gratious to there keeper!

Never thought about the horses with anemones... Thats one for the Seahorse forum!

anenomes are not good for seahorses so that will be a no...

if clowns grew to be as big as sharks we would never go in the water... place a few more anenomes in the tank and it should get better because the clown will not feel like he needs to defend the only home in the tank, even if the other clown does not host
