My Flame Angel does not bother my corals, but they are not always reef safe. I have a 150g with lots of live rock for grazing and I clip nori on the glass to suppliment his feeding. I have heard that if you keep them well fed they won't pick at the corals.

I had one in my tank for awhile and like you he stayed away from the vggie clip. Here are a cpl of tips that worked for me. I broke the nori up and put it in with the flake food after a cpl of days he started eating the nori I also put in meaty foods( clams shrimp ) that he could pick at for awhile .

Flame's seem to be a little hit or miss with eating corals, the only way to stop him is to get him out of the tank.

ive heard of nipping but never really heard of them doing any damage to the corals other than ticking it off and making it close up

Now that it has started nipping you will be lucky if it stops. I had to remove a flame and a coral beauty from my tank (replaced one with the other) for nipping corals. I have heard that they are hit or miss but i figured since I am 0 for 2 I am done with dwarf angels. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.
