Question

Maze Brain

I have a 36 Gallon corner tank with 130 Watts of PC lighting (1 - 65 Watt Actinic and 1 - 65 watt 10,000k). Is this sufficient lighting to keep a Maze Brain. I have heard conflicting stories.

I have a 29 Gal. w/ 130 W of PC, as well, and my maze brain is doing awesome! However, favites are not entirely photosynthetic either. Do remember that they do feed by way of sweeping tentacles as well. Keep it well fed and it will thrive under those lights with closely monitored water params! Enjoy, they are a fascinating addition to any reef!

Welcome to TRT!!!

yep, to what is said above.

make sure to keep any other corals away from those sweeper tentacles, they have a potent sting. these tentacles come out at night so you might want to try feeding at night if you think it is not getting enough during normal daylight hours.

Thanks, what do you recommend for feeding?

the sweeper tentacles can be lured out during the day (because who's awake when corals are) by turkey basting the juice that accompanies frozen brine or mysis shrimp. I turn off the filtration in my tank and thaw a cube of Marine Cuisine in a cup of hot water. Using the baster I feed the fish the large particles and the brain gets the nutrient layden juice. I also feed my other LPS like my hammer, candycane, torch etc., they however will eat the large stuff like the fish do. Have fun drawing out the tentacles on your corals, it is pretty fascinating to watch them feed. I use the baster to target individual corals so that I don't flood the tank with too many nutrients and proteins.
