Matt's 55 Gallon Build
Well I got a 55 gallon tank this weekend from a guy that had used it for a freshwater tank. Everything was pretty dirty and needed some cleaning up but nothing too bad. It had a bunch of stuff with it but I am only using the tank and the stand. Here is the tank and stand when I got them.

Well upon further inspection I noticed that the stand had roaches so I took everything apart and cleaned it all and disinfected everything. Then I put it all back together and it looked pretty good.

Well, here is the tank. It had a lot of mineral deposits on it and had some algae along the bottom where the gravel was. Here is what it looked like before I cleaned it up.

Well I got the stand all cleaned up and put it in my room. Then I went to the LFS and picked up a background for the tank. I decided to go with black this time instead of blue because I already have blue on my 20 gallon tank. I got the tank all cleaned up and scraped the glass clean with a razor blade. Then I applied the background and put it on the stand.

While I was at the LFS today I also picked up another heater for the 55 and two glass tops. Well while I was cleaning the tank I set the glass lids down to the side then I left the room to get something. When I came back I heard a nice little crack which happened to be one of the glass tops I just bought.

Well here is what everything looks like right now. It's lit with some cheap flourescent fixtures I had lying around. I hope to add some water tonight as well as a couple pieces of LR to help it start to cycle.

Oh it wasn't that odd. I forgot that I put it there and I stepped on it on my way back in.

Let me know if you're ever don the the Wichita area.
