To be brief, MASNA is about to go under, and has requested hobbiest donations. Apparently there were not enough attendees at the conference this year and the hotel therefore charged MASNA a whopping fee. MASNA is in a large way responsible for this and is in the process of reorganizing to prevent this in the future (assuming they have one). If MASNA fails to make up its debt to the hotel, there will not be a MACNA XIV this year in Dallas, which would be a real shame as Brad Ward and the DFW
Marine Aquarium Society are putting it together. Having been a member of that group and a friend of Brad Ward, I was expecting big things out of next year's conference.

MASNA has stated that if they fail to make their goal, they will refund all donations.
I personally have no connection to MASNA or MACNA. I'd just hate not to have a conference to go to next year.
