Question

Maroon Clowns - Who keeps them with other fish?

Hi Guys! It's been a while - I've been busy with work and MIA - but I do have a question for you...

How many of you with Maroon Clownfish keep them alone vs. with other fish?

I have a Gold Striped Maroon pair that I had been keeping alone in their own tank. It is a relatively new/young pair - the were wild caught juvi's that I got back in Feb who paired right away.

My question is how many people keep Maroon's with other tank mates - or how many keep them alone in their own tank?

I was considering moving them to my other tank - switching my black ocellaris pair out with them for other reasons... They would be the last additions to that tank and their other inhabitants would be a Black Capped Basslet, Bi-Colored Blenny, Target Mandrin & Twin Spot Goby... I would be expecting to keep them in this tank with only these mates for about a year.

Really just wondering who else keeps Maroons and if they keep them with other fish or alone?

Thanks - Kim

I have a pair in my 75 along w/ a starry blenny, a flame hawkfish, and a foxface. The clowns only bother the other fish when they get too close to their anemone.

I have two Maroons in a 75 right now hosting a Seabae. THe only time they show aggression is when the foxface comes close to the Seabae. Any other fish come near it and they could care less, but they hate that foxface for some reason.

I have one pair of Maroons in my 90 with a foxface, lawnmower blenny, Sailfin, a dori and an engineer goby. The only fish I have that can get near the amenone is the lawnmower blenny. I think he is allowed because he is so freaking ugly they can't look at him.

I have another pair in a 75 with an anemone. They don't allow anything near the anemone either. A 4" puffer fish was put in the tank with them, the puffer went to the anemone, the female told him in fish terms "get out!". The puffer didn't heed the warning. We buried the puffer at sea.

My pair of percs are in a tank by themselves.

The two in the 75 are going to be in a 29G soon with the engineer goby and an eel.

In addition to mine, I've seen pairs and individual maroon clowns in tanks w/ all kinds of other fish. (Just look at your lfs) I really don't think this is an issue, they are probably more dangerous to you than to other tank inhabitants.

Mines OK with others because he was the last one added and that way he's less aggressive.

the 6 line believe it or not stares him down, he shows no fear in the face of the maroon.
