Mantis Pics...FINALLY!!!

okay...had this mantis for over a year now...and FINALLY....FINALLY...she stoped being a scardy cat, and actually stayed out long enough for me to snap some shots!!!

Forgive me, as I'm just a little excited...so I'm probably going to post a BUNCH of shots of her! hahahah

the most I ever saw of her was maybe a quick flash here or there. At first, she was maybe the size of a small feeder ghost shrimp you might give to your lion...but now, she's about an inch and a half!!

(I keep saying she...cause I'm guessing it's a female by the lack of colors. But then again, it's twice as colorful as it was when I first found her...so who knows.

But anyways...over a year later, and I FINALLY can be sure it's a smasher!!!

enjoy!

1st pic: Up until now, this was the BEST shot I'd had of my mantis
2nd-5th pic: But look at 'er now!!

(btw...if anyone can tell which species of Mantis she is...I'd LOVE to know!!)

I think if I ever do an acrylic nano cube, I will get me one of those, they are neat, just am not willing to risk my fish or more importantly my 55g by having one in a glass tank...

What an awesome creature! nice pics too. Do you have to be careful about what you put in the tank because the MS might eat it?

Roy's list is the best resource for identifying stomatopods. Because of the spike between the eyes it is definately not a peacock.

It looks a lot like my falactus, but you should take a careful look at the telson to be sure. I put some snails in with mine and he banged on one all night only to have it happily crawl away when he wasn't looking.

Some good pictures!

That is about the same color as the one in my reef, I have never lost anything to it, I have seen it once only.
