Question

Mantis is gone but...

Hi gang

Well the hydro went out for 5 1/2 hrs last night, luckly I have a wood stove in the family room were the tank is and I used the hot water in the bottle trick( floating ) to keep the temp in the tank up a bit.

The temp in the tank did drop though from 79F to 77F but the scary part is when the power went out I had 3 bags from the lfs floating in the tank that I just brought home (plain bad luck)

1 bag had 2 pep shrimp
1 bag had 2 African clowns at least thats what the lfs called them?
1 bag had a bi colour blennie

They sat in the bags the whole time the power was out I didn't know what else to do with them. I added tank water to the bags slowly with the day lights out then added them to the tank late last night after the power came back on and when the tank temp had come back up to 78F.

The 2 clowns seemed fine stayed in a corner of the tank and the bi colour vanished into the rock work along with the 2 pep shrimp last night.

Well I get up this morning and find the blennie out looking for food (normal) but the 2 clowns are now 1 and he is on the bottom, I don't see the other one yet but the 1 clown was lying on his side on the bottom

The other tank mates seem fine
1 bannded coral shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp
assorted blue legged crabs and snails

any ideas?

I just found one of the peps he seems fine and I also found a decorator crab ( the guy that sticks stuff to himself) also OK.

not sure if he is a good guy or a bad guy though??

The one clown is still on the bottom in a upright position off/on, at first he had the tail curl thing happening but not now, now he is just in the upright but on the bottom and still no sign of the other one?

Hi Doug,

Ya he turned up I thought he was dead but he came out from the rockwork at the other end of the tank kinda strange b/c when they went in they hung out together musta had a spat in the middle of the night, the one clown that was doing the tale curl and lying on the bottom has started to perk up a little more so there is hope.

I was going to hold off on the fish but I lucked out and saw the rock the mantis was in a fluke really just happened to see movement in a rock and when I looked closer there the little bugger was.

While I was at the lfs I picked up some blood worm and some krull mush stuff already had some brine so I will try a little mix of these to see what all of them prefer.

Interesting side note is the lfs had purple tangs in, they are not cheap here 80 bucks CND a pop I was tempted but I don't think the tank is ready and niether am I, and I want him to go in last, boy it was hard not to say ya I will take that one and to make matters worse the guy was saying they are hard to get in.

man have I got a weakness when it comes to Tangs.
