Not likely, Mangroves are slow growers and don't uptake that many nutrients from the system unless you have a ton of them (like seriously..LOTS of them)

O ok well is their some type of plant that I can put in my tank that looks like a carpet and will cover my sand bed may be, or like a type of plant the does not grow really tall in the water?just to get rid of the hair algae that is covering every thing.

+1

mangroves do take up nutrients but much slower than macro algaes by comparison.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

http://www.live-plants.com/

you can look through here, not sure exactly what would work best in your setup. A mangrove won't hurt and is interesting, but is just not super fast on growth and nutrient uptake

The best thing to do to get rid of your hair algae is clean up the nutrients. It won't happen very quickly but you don't really want it to. A few things you could do would be lower your lighting cycle down a bit. Maybe only have lights on for 6 or 7 hours a day. Do larger water changes. 20% weekly is what I did to get rid of all mine. Blast your rock with powerheads or turkey basters before the waterchanges to make sure you get as much junk out in the water change as possible. You want the water you are replacing to be as dirty as possible to make the change truly effective. On top of that just pull as much out as you can as often as you can. It takes time but eventually you will get all the built up nutrients out of your tank and your algae growth will completely stop. Also, it's very easy to overfeed fish and polute your tank too. If you have fish, feed them only once every 3 days, and they really only need a very tiny bit. Your hair algae will all go away in time. The key will just be the slow removal of all your built up nutrients.

If you put enough in there, it will make a difference. This is coming from someone with experience. I had 58 mangroves in my 20 long.....it was AWESOME. I had insane growth rates and the roots were all intertwined together. My skimmer didnt pull much at all....the mangroves were taking up a majority of the nutrients. BUT, it still sucked power just like a skimmer........mangroves need lights......and they end sucking the same power as your skimmer would. Heres a bad picture of my old refuge that was insanely efficient.

BTW, if I ever go with a larger tank........I will CERTAINLY run another system like this. I was propogating the mangroves and planting them in the wild. I would buy them.......buy maybe 60 at a time once they started to root and bud leaves....give them to the local wildlife commission to plant back in the wild, here in florida its illegal to uproot them....they are becomming more and more scarce....so why not help the environment and pull nutrients at the same time. Thank you ibanez2k
