Macro Shots
okay...posting separate from my new frags thread....since most of these are old corals....but I finally figured out how to take decent macro shots. hahah
It involves a tripod (which I had), and a good amount of downward pressure ON the tripod...while taking the picture. Apperantly the tripod was still shaking. Also, overriding the autofocus and focusing manually seems to give me that one-up on taking a nice shot.
here goes:
nice pic of the red-polyped monti I just got:
My current favorite coral (that was before the new ones showed up! hahah). My Favites...starting to round itself out. I LOVE this shot...shows the detail of it's surface so good!!
A nice close-up of a few of the 25+ heads of my trumpet coral:
and an echinophillia (??) that I got at the MACNA convention last year (compliments of the frags.org booth). Growing pretty slow up until last week. Seems to be coloring up and spreading out a bit now:
(more to come...MANY more! hahaha)

I nice strawberry red A. Millepora that was placed here temporarily, but seems to be taking off pretty well. if it wasn't so close to the front of the glass, I'd just leave him there. But all that aside, here it is:
and another closer view from the same shot:
and while we're on variations of reds...here's my other pink acro (also a millepora, I believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on either of these). Not so much a macro...as just a shot that's FINALLY worth sharing. My camera isn't so fond of bright pink things on black backgrounds. hehehe:

an Acropora valida that we got from Dr Mac's that's finally starting to show off it's purple/blue tips. Again...camera's not so fond of vivid colors on a black background. Tends to blur them:

and REALLY could use your help on this one guys....I also got this guy at Dr's Macs...and have NO clue what it is. Defintiely SPS...but after that, at a TOTAL loss. Don't think it's an acro...as the bumps aren't the right shape. It's more stubly than bumpy. Very fine/small corralites. and if I didn't know any better, I'd say each polyp is only one tenticle. When we bought it...it had an "encrusting" look about it. Since being in my tank, it's defintiely started branching. ANyways...very open to even best guesses:

who says the S in SPS stands for Small? With macro shots...why, there as big as your mouse pointer!!! (okay...that's still kind of small...but WAY bigger than they are in real life).
These two corals aren't as colorful as some of my others...actually, pretty orange/brown for the most part, but in real life, I think they're still beautiful.
a overall shot of my orange birdnest:
and an even CLOSER shot:
and my golden Pocilliapora d:

okay...so for SOME reason, the macro shots of Tammy's tank didn't turn out so good. But...eh...while I'm sharing...I'll just make the pics smaller, and they'll look better, right? (not so much! hahaha)
still the best shot I have of my pistol shrimp:
and some of Tammy's Zoa's. Her purple passions (look pink to me...but STILL..these guys are gorgeous in person!):
and her bubble-gum zoa's:
and the rainbow zoa's (they'll be rainbow when the BLUE starts coming back):

Skeety, How do you post your pics so that people can see them large size without having to click on them?

Skeety, very nice pictures! If you wish to avoid too much shaking when you're taking a macro shot , try your timer shot. Focus the macro and then just use your timer. it is also wise to use a remote but if you don't have one, timer is one of the key.
