MAC Certified Online Stores

I am trying to be conscious about where I purchase my fish. I have tried to buy fish that are tank bred or hand me down fish from local reefers.

I came across MAC the other day and it looks like there are places that sell fish responsibly make sure they come from areas that keep the fish population self sustaining.

I was wondering if any online stores that sell fish only sell fish that come from reputable collectors. Basically I don't want to buy a fish that isn't from a sustainable population.

is liveaquaria.com one of these places?

Their website says this
Quote:
Only the most experienced and responsible suppliers in the industry get to work with us - those who share our commitment to the preservation of our oceans and the life within them. To protect our natural resources, we support companies investing in aquacultured and tankraised species.
But this store and any other online store isn't on MACs licensed retailers section.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I applaud your concerns but think that you may need to expand your search beyond their certification. They only have 4 retailers listed in the US as certified. I don't know much about MAC's and honestly haven't even heard of them before this post. This may be a case of a cetrification only being as valid as the organization issuing it.

There are many aquacultured fish and corals available. Anything specific that you are looking for?

I'm not concerned about corals, I can pretty much find anything aquacultured for that. It's fish that is hard. I already have 2 clowns and a cardinal fish. I got a pink spotted goby from a fellow reefer and I saved a yellow clown goby from a Petco (which apparantly gets it's supplies from a MAC certified wholesaler).

I don't want to get any psuedochromis because the last one I had kept killing my cleanup crew. So that doesn't leave me with many options for fish.

So I figured I would try to find a place that sold wild caught fish, but someplace that only dealt with sustainable livestock. I just don't know where anything comes from and was hoping someone knew.

As for MAC itself, it sounds like it is becoming easier to sell MAC certified livestock:

The problem is it cost thousands to be MAC certified which most stores can not afford.
