LR foundation

In a few months, I will be redoing my tanks plumbing & adding a refugium, along w/ it I will re-aquascape my display tank, I know that linking all the rocks in one mass is bad, but I remember in the past someone using acrylic rods to link 2-3 of them together at once, I think it was CASEY, but I'm not sure, if anyone uses this practice could you go into detail on it and tell me how it works...

much appreciated

I tried drilling into a piece of live rock with a bit designed for ceramics. It was too easy.

I am not sure if acrylic would be the solution but nylon rod would work out great with plumbers epoxy to hold it together. I don't think the epoxy would stick as well to acrylic and especially not teflon or delrin. It might be nice to sort of groove the rod a little to give the epoxy a chance to bite.

Also, I am not sure if it is strong enough but they make those PVC risers for your sprinklers that cost maybe 20 cents with the threads on both ends that would make great little inserts as well.

That stuff is dirt cheap at www.mcmaster.com or for the risers visit the orange or blue apron place.

Adam, you might want to try the (I think PVC) rods used to flip miniblinds up and down. They sell replacements at Lowe's and HD and while they are kinda limber in teh long lengths, they hold rock together very well. I put my rock together by simply holding the rock where I wanted it to be, drilled through it and the underlying rock, with the proper size drill bit (just a standard bit) and then pounded (didn't take much force) the rod in and thorugh and then cut it off with dikes. Left a stub of rod, but I concealed it by glueing a frag of acro, zoan, or just a piece of rock in front of it, 90%of the rock was easy to drill with a standard bit, some was tough and hard (I'm guessing Florida aquacultured) The mini-blind rod is already grooved, so if you size the bit right, the ridges hold it into place and no gluing or epoxy was needed.
