low profile bulkhead

I wanted to setup some plumbing for my sump and wanted the pvc to make a quick right turn from the bulkhead as close to the sump as possible. Can I put the bulkhead backwards and just use a street elbow? Are there any other tricks in order to do the plumbing in tight spaces.

Another trick to saving space is to cut your fittings a bit. If you are using hard pvc you only need 1/3 of the space given in the socket to make a water tight seal. So you can cut the excess off making a closer fit. Just make sure you prime/glue and seat the fitting well

if it is a tapered fitting....yes, it would be a bad idea. : )

If it wasnt tapered, you could do it but you might have to recreate the starting threads with a razorblade. If it is a standard white ovc fitting you bought at home depot....its tapered

if you do put the bulkhead in backwards, you have to keep the O-ring seal opposite the nut. do not put the O-ring on the inside of the tank like you would if the bulkhead was in its normal orientation.
