Question

Low ph

My ph is 7.8 in the a.m and by the end of the light cycle it reaches 8.0.only to fall back to 7.8 by morning.calcium level is right at 500ppm and alkalinity is 12 dkh.yet the ph still remains low.The auto top off comes directly from the r/o unit with a ph 6.8,also have a calcium reactor installed but has been taken out of service since levels were rising with no change in ph.Have tried multiple water changes with no avail.any suggestions as to what could be the cause for the low ph.and how to correct it.

Thanks,Rick.

The pH is calculation of CO2 saturation in the water. You calcium and alk levels will not affect it.

On the flipside, you levels are quite elevated and I recommend letting them come down some as there really is no benefit of keeping them that high, only problems.

Your pH is fine, that is 100% normal. Too many people put too much stock in trying to keep the pH elevated that they end up causing other issues in the end.

Thumbs up

low ph

Thanks Tony, appreciate your reply.yeah they are a little high usally keep the alk at around 11 dkh and in turn keeps the calcium stable around 480ppm,Have 2 t-maxima's,2 squasmossa's,numerous chalice's and acro's so there is a high demand for calcium and shouldn't take long to bring levels back to where they should be.running a 210 gal,1200w of 20k and another 320w of actinic.a little over 250lbs of liverock.i guess you could say my bio load is.before my tank sprung a leak and had to fix it my ph was stable between 8.2 and 8.4 .tank has been back -up and running for about 4 weeks now. When i set it back up i used 50% of the original water and 50% new mix.as to not deplete too much of the benifical bacteria, still had a small diatom bloom though.which is normal on a high water change.I'll let her ride for another week and see what happens. Thanks Again.
