Lost Everything
Hi all,
I'm sad to say that I live in North Carolina and I was without power for 5 days. Needless to say, I've lost everything in my tank. There were no generators to be found anywhere and all I could do was add a little warm water and put a blanket over the tank. My heart is broken. (
I'll be back in the hobby as soon as I can get everyhing back up and running. This time I'll make sure I own a generator ahead of time. Please take an extra glance at your tank tonight and soak it all in. Don't take it for granted! It really is a special thing that can be wiped out at a moments notice.

Ted, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. When I lost power last winter, my anxiety was so high with trying to make sure I didn't lose anything. So, I can just begin to imagine what you feel. I pray you can get everything up and running very very soon!

Oh Ted!!
I'm so sorry to hear that! I had heard that Central NC had been hit hard like us down here in Spartanburg. I can understand that you are devestated.
Do work to build it up again, and report back as you go.

Really sorry to hear your bad news. At least your l.r. etc will survive. How did you and your family make out?

I too feel for you. As I look at my tank and fish, I think of who I know that has a generator I could borrow if needed. Maybe I should go out and buy a small one. Not sure the wife would go for that idea right now.
Sorry and if there is anything I can do to help you get back going, email me.

I feel your pain. We had a similar ice storm here in Connecticut a few weeks ago. I was without power for 3 days. All my corals faired well except for the mushrooms. I had 15 hairy mushrooms that were only 4 a year and a half ago....and then there were none. I also lost all my fish. ( 2 damsels and a royal gramma).
We can rebuild it.... we have the technology. I seem to have heard that somewhere in the 70s. Hopefully it won't take six million dollars...
Just to add to the anxiety, I will be tearing down my tank in late January to move it to the house I am currently building. That should be and adventure not to mention an all nighter.

Ted, my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine the pain of loosing everything. All of us become so attached to what's in our tanks, and try to tend to thier needs so carefully. The loss of one item or life dissapoints us all, I couldn't even bare the thought of your loss.
It's good to here that you were not beaten, and are willing to try again. I wish you the best.

Ted,
I am so very sorry! What size tank do you have? Is there anything we can do to help you out? My heart fell when I read your heading and then saw your location...I knew then what you'd been through as Cath has kept us posted on her sad experience.

Ted,
Really sorry about your loss. I picked up a 5KW Coleman generator on sale at Kragen Auto Parts for $379. It doesn't make stable power but good enough for lights, heaters, fridge and pumps. Not for computers though. It is really loud!!! My wife would have lynched me. I ended up putting an external truck muffler on it. Take a look at Costco or Sam's Club. I have a UPS also. Only good for running my pumps for about 8 hours. But that is with 4 external deep cycle marine/RV batteries. Enough time to get home and the generator started. Best place I found for UPS sytems is on ebay. If you see one you want, send me an email and I'll check it out for you.
Good Luck!
Bill
