looking for a cheap way to add live sand to my tank. is there any way to buy sand at the hardware store. I just want to add about 20lbs of sand to my tank to add to my dsb. i know petco sells that pre bagged stuff and that is my only option right now

the hardware store is unlikely to stock "Live" sand, and I doubt that the petco stuff is much better, just wetter.

Try googling live rock and then reading the site, I have found some real good sand at decent prices lately.

if you want to just add sand then i might look at the "play sand " and home depot or lowes.. but that is not live sand.. i know the LFS by me does carry live sand .. i think they are in 10 lbs bags.. so they should be able to order some in for you..

check the for sale ads here and on Reef Central. you might get lucky and get live sand out of someones tank who is getting out of the hobby.

See if you can buy a bag of sand or arogonite at your LFS and have a fellow reefer seed your sand for you. We did this with Mrs. Phish's new 55 and did all new sand with a cup of the stuff from my 90g.
