LIVE ROCK or DEAD ROCK? ??

I took down a 110 gallon reef tank about 2 years ago and I put all my live rock in a large garbage can with the same water from the tank and put a power head in there and put the garbage can lid on so it hasn't had any light. Would this rock still be considered live and how would I know if it was dead or alive? I am wanting to start up a new tank and use some of the rock if possible.

Just knock first. If it says come in then it is alive. If not then watch out cause it is either dead or mad at you for leaving it in a trash can for two years.

Seriously, I don't know. I am very curious as to the outcome of this so I will be watching for the answer and the final reveal.

It hasn't had any heat but it has had a power head in there. I live in north Alabama so we have some pretty hot summers but the winters are not that bad. Its been in the same water for about 2 years I think I have changed the water once.

it is probably live in the sense of what is needed, but not in the sense that most people talk about. i would start the purging (cooking) process and see what the detrital production is like. i would try and get the temperature consistent during this process.
