live rock curing.....

Hi,

I am curing live rock in my tank and I see a bunch of brown algae forming all over the rock. Is this normal? It has been curing about a month and at last check(a few days ago) my stats looked like this:

Amonia: 0
Nitrites: .5
Nitrates: 50

I really haven't been using light (maybe an hour a day to look at it) and used all RODI water. Any help would be appreciated.

Yup. It's likely diatoms. A normal, but ugly part of setting up a new tank

Thanks !!! I did a search on diatoms and it looks like that is common. I only did 3 or so water changes in the beginning. Should I be doing more? From reading it looks like I should just keep the same water now and ride it out?

Well ammonia is zero a WC should get rid of some of the nirates your close to being ready.

yeah diatom scared me/ i didnt know what was going on but it went away quiskly
