little giant going out?! help!

i have two little giant pumps on my 120, one runs the skimmer and one runs the returns. every few minutes I hear a sound coming from the sump similar to a throw rug being sucked too far into a vacuum cleaner (kind of a groaning sound). I have to go to work. does the sound mean my pump is going out? what should I do? when I come home is my tank going to be toast?!?! please help.

hard to tell.

could it be sucking in air from somewhere? is there something blocking the inlet? these can cause pumps to make unhappy noises.

i didnt reach down there to see if there was something blocking, i was afraid to get my fingers chopped off, but the sump is clear and it didnt look like anything was blocking. there was plenty of water for it not to be sucking air though. pray for my poor tank.
