lionfish help

I am in the process of getting my lion off of live off (goldfish and guppys). I was feeding him some kind of salt water fish i bought from the local grocery store. I was amazed he took it right off the bat....but theres the problem. He still hasnt swallowed it. its inside he mouth. You cant see it but when he opens he mounth you can. Almost looks like its stuck in there. The piece might have been a little big for him? What can i do to help him. He looks like hes getting irratated by it. always opening his mouth like hes yawning. I food was dethawd by the way if anyone was wondering. Could the food be to soft for him to swallow? Please help!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much; these guys are eating machines. I saw a lion go around for a whole day with the tail end of a wrasse sticking out of his mouth! The wrasse was the same size as the lion and as the front part of the wrasse digested the tail slipped farther and farther into the lion's mouth.
