lighting question


ok this whole time i thought i hd 250watt mh ( what the guy told me when i bought the setup) turns out they are only 175watt mh. Well my question is that will it be enough lightiing for a mixed reef tank it is a 75g the lights sit about 4 to 5 inches off the water.

I think you would be better off with 2 of those and maybe some VHOs...

I have 2x175W MHs and 2x110W VHOs on my 55 gallon.

A 75G is not a really deep tank so you should be ok. Any Acropora species, Clams or other light demanding animals should be placed high in the tank but other than that....Everything should be fine.

well see its a 75g tall it is taller than most 75g tanks

2*175 should be more than enough provided your not using 20K bulbs or something. The 175's put off about double the light the 150's do, and I've seen very sucessfull SPS reefs with 2*150W MH over a 75G tank.

Even with 175W 14K MH I think you are more than fine for a mixed reef in a 75G tank especially with the bulbs that close to the water.

Also, If it was a LFS where you got the lights, I dont think I would continue shop there.
