Lighting problem!..?

Help! My main lighting system went out! I have two power compacts being run by an IceCap 430, connected to an IceCap digital timer. For the last 4-5 days my main lights were not coming on during the day from the timer but I could push the timer control to "on" and they would come on. Now my lights won't come on at all! I just now sat in front of the timer watching the count-down till lights on, timer triped....no lights. It seems that the PC bulbs attempt to glow for less than a second and then quit. I checked the quick connect plug and one out of the six pins looked deeper than the rest and may have not been making full contact but the lights would come on manualy and turn off by the timer. I fixed the pin, have full contact and still can not get the lights on! Repeatedly checked and the bulbs would start to glow then quit. I'm not sure if one of my bulbs went bad (all though both bulbs try and light) or if my balast isn't putting out enough to light the bulbs...???

I know some of you have had to send your IceCap balasts in for repair...what were the symptoms that they needed to be repaired? Any experience/advice on this. I believe unless both bulbs are on neither will work but short of two new bulbs and a balast to test which is not working, how do I test them. I do have a volt/ohm meter but not sure how to test the balast/lamps to see which is acting up... In the mean time I only have one actinic lighting my reef tank!

I don't have an Icecap ballast, but have you tried unplugging the fixture from the timer and not using the timer. Maybe the timer is bad. Sometimes, its obvious things we overlook. HTH...good luck.

Hi Andy,
The timer is hardwired to the balast and all harness connections. Not easy to bypass. I seriously doubt that it's the timer at this point. Given that the bulbs try to light and then blink out in about one second, I am very suspicious of either a bulb or the balast although BOTH bulbs try to start??? My first suspicion was the wiring clip but that connection looks good also???
