Lighting ... new hood vs. retro question

Hello all,

I was just wondering about lighting. It seems like mahy of the VHO/MH lighting set-ups that come in a hood (powder coated metal hood) are less expensive and have better organization / fewer cords then the exact same thing as a retrofit...why is that?

I would love to get something that is all wired and ready to go with fewer wires and cords for the same price as all the retro stuff...but of course, I want to mount this is a canopy.

Can you take the stuff out of the provided hood and mount it in a canopy?

Sorry I'm rambling......but here is an example

Here is the full set-up wired in the hood:

ZZLTMHD42MHVHO .48DLX2175W+ACT110W @ $573.00

The same thing in retrofit.....is like 30$ less.....not much of a difference...

Hi,

A few months back I was wondering about the same thing myself when I set up a small reef tank. I was just about to purchase a new hood when a friend of mine suggested hello lights... I checked out their site and I found that it was considerably cheaper to get the retro than the complete hood. I'm not sure if they still have the great "deal" going on that I got, but I thought I'd at least mention them.

Well, hope this helps and Good Luck!

when it is a complete system they can wire all of it together. all nice and neat. you can do this also with a retro. you can also remove all of the stuff from a complete and transfer it to your canopy.
