Lighting has me puzzled

I went to my lsf and found out the lighting system I need for my 20 gallon tank will cost me 250 bucks. I am tryining to learn what system will be the best lighting capadable with most corals. I would appreciate some advise and mybe avoid abreviations because I am new to salt and get lost easily. Unfortunatly I have no advice for salt tanks yet but I like to consider myself quit knowledgeable with freshwater tanks and would love to help if anyone has questions with that. Thanks

If I remember correctly, you have a 20 you are setting up? The most versatile lighting as far being able to keep anything would be metal halide. Whith this though, you would run into some real heat issues in a smaller tank. I would suggest VHO lighting as this is vesatile and wont create as much of a heat issue. It is also cheaper by far than Metal halide. You might still have some heat issues but this can be fixed with a small fan blowing on the sump water or in the light canopy. The ultimate factor in picking lighting is what you want to keep in the tank. Im sure you can find some great deals online and even better if you are handy woth do-it-yourself stuff.
Im sure others will chime in with more wisdom and info to pass along! HTH

As Robert said, VHO would be my choice on a 20 gallon too, in fact, my 180 reef is lit with only VHO.

I too am running VHO on my 75g

I do know a few people running MH (metal halide)
on their 20g reef but I agree that heat would be an issue.
