If you are only gonna have maybe a little LR, and caulerpa, etc. NO lights should be just fine. That is what I have been told when I asked the same question.

I was going to have just 4" DSB, and caulerpa. Will caulerpa grow with out light?

Hi!

I just read in Robert Fennes' Conscientious Saltwater aquarist book that Caulerpa racemosa or other variations of caulerpa, like feather C. will thrive with a regular output light source, so a 25-30 watt fluorescent should do the job.

I'm planning on building a refugium in my sump. I haven't started yet, but all the arrangements are dancing in my head. Can't wait to start !

Cheers!

i have been looking for the same thing...check this out...

http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...threadid=11195

i actually have bought both the 36 watt "Lights of America" (LOA)light and the 65 watt LOA as well...

i think the smaller one might fit better in the space i have and i heard that the 65W really puts out the light...

i think i paid around $29 for the 36W and about $40-45 for the 65W locally at menards...

i know alot of DIY guys on the BBs use these lights for refugiums...the only downside is that you have to wire a plug on them yourself which really isnt that hard..

they have a really well built housing that seems pretty water proof as well...

maybe do a search on lights of america...

HTH

Just pick up some regular N.O. flourescent grow lights like you would use for plants.

You can buy bulbs/fixture at Walmart or Home Depot for just a few bucks. I think I picked up a 5 foot shoplight and plant bulbs for under 20 bucks for my refugium. You can, of course, get the fixture in shorter lengths for the smaller tank.
