Lighting for a 10 gallon softy reef

So what is the deal with these....9w T-5???? Is there really a 9W T-5 bulb?

Would two of these work??

How about one of these?

This seems like an ideal setup to fit inside my existing all glass light fixture. I can gut the 15w flourecent and have much better light with this!

why not try a PC fixture? I'm not sure I've seen a 9w T-5 on reefgeek.com. Probably not a parabolic reflector available for it either.

Yeah...that is what my 2nd post is...a 32w PC retro unit!

seems ideal for me plus I can squeeze it in the old 15w flourecent setup!

But was checking on the T-5 deal as it is new to me! Good point on the reflector issue!

Even though it is a small tank there is a certian amount of light needed for the coral to have any use of it. I personally would go with a 96W Power quad.

Whiskey

Oops, didn't look at the second link. I would go with that PC then, since it doesn't require too much modifying. I'm in the process of moving to T-5 lamps myself. If things go well, I'll be calling you for some lps frags!

well this will probably be a short lived tank as i have a 20 galln sitting around that I will probably move a this stuff to! I plan on the dual 65w PC setup for that!

Just looking for something cheap to get by for now with just some zoos and shrooms & GSP from my main tank!

32w PC should be a big improvement over the regular 15w flouresc...right?

I don't think you are looking at this the right way. If you will have 2X65W for the 20 you will soon move into, then use that light on the 10G.

I think that would be a great light.

go for broke and throw a 400w mh on it. just need a good top off system for evap. jk. i agree with wiskey, use the same lights you will be using later. might hang off a bit for a while, but the corals will be used to it by the time you move em.

well..the 10 gallon is 20" wide while the 2x65w units are 24". I was trying to get something cheap to keep some softies happy for a little bit while keeping the 10 gallon look. Maybe the 20 will be set up very soon!

Either way they will be
as they were used to the 250w MH's & 110w VHO's
