Lighting/Canopy question???

What's the deal with lighting being over open water? I built a canopy over my 58gal and have a Coralife Retrofit kit mounted inside. Its about 7in above the water. Do I need to keep the glass canopy on as well or is it ok to take it out. The lights say not for use over open water. Is that just a precaution for water splashing? I'm a newbie at this and just looking for some good input. Thanks

if the end caps are waterproof then you should be fine. if not then you will get a ton of corrosion.

They are moisture resistant endcaps.

My Coralife has a piece of plexi over the lights!7" is very high no spray will reach that.I'd put some spacer between the fixture and the Canopy to bring it down to 5" or 6".
