lighting

I have 2 110w VHO lights over my 55g now (one antanic and one 10k) and i am about to add 2 more 110w VHO and i don't know if i should get the same bulbs that i have now. Do the antanics do anything for coral other than make the color come out and look cool? Also when i get the other 2 VHO i will have 440w and do you think that would be enough to have a clam ?

please help,
Barry

Good morning Barry,

This subject is still hotly debated with both sides having logical arguments. IME with running VHO lighting only for the last 4 years, the actinic dosen't do a thing to help in regards to coral health (I sure as heck don't see it anyway). I have run several combinations over the years from 5 Aquasuns and one 50/50, to 4 Aquasuns and two 50/50, to 4 AquaSuns and two actinic (my current combination). I prefer the look of the 4 Aquasuns and two 50/50 and will go back to this combination on my next bulb change. Also some say that the Aquasuns appear pink to them, but for the life of me, and others who have looked at my tank, this is not the case on my system.

Also when i get the other 2 VHO i will have 440w and do you think that would be enough to have a clam ?

I don't keep clams, but from what I read, most would recommend metal halide if the clam is placed on the bottom of the tank.
Steve
