Light on during cycle?

Should I have my lights on while the tank is cycling?

Reviews are mixed. I personally beleive that while cycling you have everything you need to breed serious algae, so why add the light to fuel it. Maybe an hour a day so you can check things out.

Others beleive that algae is part of the process of a new tank and say a few hours is good.

I agree with HOP but on the other hand if you have some hitchiking goodies you don't want to starve them of light.

If it's just live rock and sand, leave the lights off. If you have any coral hitch hikers, leave the lights on for a few hours.
