light acclimation ???

So the stuff that I saved from my 135 is under 175 watt 20K halides. So my concern and question being when my tank is ready to contain these corals clams etc. how should I acclimate them to the 4X 250 w HQI's?

will you also have actinic supplimentation?

there are several methods i have heard to use. you can do the alternate on and off thing. where you have the lights on for hour, then turn them off for hour. then over several weeks you slowly increase the time the lights are on. the other is to just start with a shorter lighting cycle. start out with the lights on for only 3 hours. then every week increase it by an hour.

Ditto on Geoff's method!

Other methods include raising the lights, and gradually lower them over time.

Placing the corals low, and gradually moving them up (which applies more to new frags than it does to transitioning corals from one tank to another.

others use layers of screening to cover the tank...then gradually removing a layer of screen every so often.

Whatever works best for your situation/set-up! personally, Geoff's method sounds the easiest.

I would be carefull with the on-off method. I have "cooked" some new corals in 30 minutes or less by placing them too high in my tank. I used the Raise the lights up way high and lower them ablout an inch a week until they were where I wanted them. It worked well.

probably going with the short intervals of photoperiod, along with maybe only two lights on at a time for a bit then maybe throw one more in then full light and full photoperiod. How long would you guys suggest between intervals a week maybe?
