LFS rip off maby

went to the LFS today i just needed some base rock that cant be to much this is the same LFS that sells there LR for 11.95LB. well i was in luck lady told me that she will sell base for 1.50LB yea!! when i went back with her to get it they had it in there LR tanks so I asked hmm how long ya guys had it in there and she told me that its been in there about 4 moths now then she tells me that they dont get much call for base rock so im currous is all this "base" rock thats purple realy just base rock or would you call it LR hmm ? the other thing that struck me funny was that they had 3 Green Mandarin gobies in there tanks with the rock and so i had to ask her how long those guys been in ther and she said oh thats jake buba and lucy weve had them about 3 yrs now
and when i realy got lookin there are TUNS of pods just every where so with any luck ive got a few to go along with the heard thats already doing verry well in my 30 FOWLR

Ok back home with the new 20LB of base rock getting it all put in and just to se how things look kick on the lights now ive only got NO lights on from when it was a planted FW tank and then the phone rang so off to chat with the famdamly for a while and forget to shut down the lights and while im sittin there low and behold i start to get corals popin out of my base rock ive got what looks like a finger leather about 30 bright red tube worms and some I dont know what the heck those are's there green with arms and at the ends of the arms there are bubles got one green and one clear hmm just cant wait to get a flashlight on all this tonight

so maby ill got back to them for some more base rock when i get the 55 converted ya never know

Well if they are selling base rock with purple color for $1.50 a lb get enough to aqquascape your tank. If its in the same tank, woo hoo

It was probably just dead rock that they put in their system, and now it's as "live" as any other live rock.

Sounds like a good, cheap alternative to me. It may have just been labeled "base rock" because it wasn't in interesting shapes. Hard to say. Either way, it sounds like a great deal to me.

Buy as much as you can..... You're saving yourself $10 a pound....

Don't tip them off either.... Just keep going back and buy more Base Rock....

I got about 80 pounds of dead rock from my friend about 3 months ago.... It's VERY much alive now....

man, good deal gussy's. all base rock evetually becomes liverock.

apparantly the lfs isnt hip to this, or doesnt inform people of it. or like daniel said, it's not as nicely shaped as the "live rock" either way, i'd buy as much as you can before they get hip and change prices!

my lfs, and another in town also sell base rock for 1.50 a pound, and keep it in the same tank as the live rock. it's just nto quite as pretty, but is plenty live, at least with bacteria anyway. not much visible life or corraline though. and i've yet to get lucky enough to pick up a hitchhiker

congrats!!

Gee my lfs will not sell base rock for any less than the regular lr because in there words its the same. He stated even base rock can look nice with the proper lay out. He also sells the lr and base for 4.99 a pound. He also has tongan lr for slightly more I beleave 6.99 a pound but well worth it.
