Right down the street from Ocean paradise is a little place called High Tide (in Pineville, actually), Tommy runs the place like it is his own little display, has props, supports aquacultured stuff and does sponsor events (like the Charlotte club and The NC Frag group meetings), and is very knowledgable about reef keeping in general. The shop is only reef, a few fish, mostly corals. I believe Ocean Paradise has gone out of business, not absolutely sure on that.
Fintastic has a nice selection of fish and corals, it is on South Blvd in Charlo6tte. Folks there are a bit snotty, and getting someone to pull out a specimen is touchy at best. btw, don't mention that you surf the net for info, they will tell you how bad the internet is for quack info... ... Go figure, I guess the truth hurts.
One nice shop in Raleigh, but I don't remember the name, I'll dig through my stuff and find it.
One really great shop in Greensboro, but the guys there are hit or miss on having a good selection Marine Ecoystems near the Univerity section, Rich and Chris run the shop, Great guys and a great shop. THE place in that area to buy Live rock, and a great price and selection of the unusual when they get the stuff in. Prolly best to cll before making a trip.
I can't believe there isn't one other shop besides the Place I am thinking of in Raleigh, but I will follow up on that.
