Let me introduce myself
I am a newcomer to saltwater and I am sure I shall be in here with an emergency sooner or later. hopefully I will be able to learn what I am doing without any of my fish or corals suffering too much from my ignorance. I am also available to anyone who needs help with website stuff and graphics etc. Please feel free to visit my 3D graphics wallpaper site and download as many as you might like for desktop wallpapers. I hope to get to the point where I may someday be able to help others in this fascinating hobby. Now for my first question; I have discovered small (about half to one inch litle reddish brown almost flower like animals coming up on the bottom of some of my rock and also in my sand. I have looked through a ton of books etc. and have not been able to find what these are. they are attractive little things and I would like to find out what they are and their requirements. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Beel
Can you post a pic of those flowerlike beasties? Too many possibilities match your short description
Beware the Dark Side, hehe.

You can find a picture of them at the following link. they are probably very common and I am sure that I will turn out to be the only person who has not seen these before on this board. the link is ; http://www.beelzebulb.com/JPGS/Image1.jpg

Beel,
Congratulations.
You have a healthy-looking bunch of red and green mushroom anemones (a.k.a. Corallimorpharians), most probably of the genus Discosoma (or Actinodiscus, as some would have it).
A lot of people usually have to pay for "shrooms". And a LOT of folk on this board can tell you how to keep them happy and even propagate them.

Welcome Beelzebulb!
Kewl on the red and green shrooms! These just came as hitchhikers on your live rock? That's great! Red mushroom rocks can go as high as $40 each.

I thank you kindly for the info. Now if I get rid of the last rock anemone which is definitely a tough little one I will be more than happy with that particular piece of rock. Again thankyou.

Hi Beelzebub,
Glad to have you aboard The Reef Tank! Nice bonus to get those 'shrooms with your live rock!
As for the Aiptasia, here is a great site with comprehensive info: http://www.wyx.com/iheo/tank/aiptasia.htm
Joaco's site has lots of other good reef info and articles, one of my favorite sites: http://www.wyx.com/iheo/tank/new.htm
Again, welcome!
Dick

Actually I had only 3 rock anemone left that were really tough to get to. I finally took a small tube of Ross super glue and squirted a bit into each ones tentacles and that really did them in. Dead in about 30 seconds and now I will just have to keep an eye out for any that come up for the next little while.
