lemon peel with bloaded belly

Hello all,

I have a lemon peel that has been in the tank for about 3 weeks. He started off eating everything in site and swimming so happily all day long. All of a sudden he hasn't eaten in 2 days and he has been hiding and looks as if his belly is swelling. I have seen him take crap so I don't think it's a buildup of that. Anybody got any ideas.

Thanks Jim

Well, when my FW fish get stopped up, I fed them peas. Is your fish getting any greens?

Jerel or Jenn might know the timeline but it's a possibility that your he is a she and it's egg-bound. I hope they can fill you in on how to "milk" the eggs if this is the case.

Egg-bound is a distinct possibility. If so raise the temp up to about 82-3F and wait it out.
Constipation would definitely be helped by frozen green peas, no shell, just the insides.
Tape worms, trematodes, nematodes, bacterial, ect., not much you can do. Fresh garlic helps with some of the worms and other intestinal parasites, boosts the immune system too.

Hello all, and thanks for the reply.

I had some green weed stuff in the tank that my LFS gave me for them to eat. I didn't actually see them eat but everyday when I would check the tank I could see a little more gone. I figured the lemon was just eating that. I will raise the temp a few degrees for a few days and see if that would help. My LFS doesn't think the lemon is pregnant but who knows.
