Lazy xenia!

Now its not really lazy, but it is laying down. About a week ago one of my xenia decided to lay on its side, its stock is about 6 inches long. As a result it coverd up a lot of the buttons that surround its base. I thought that today I would try to stand it up or move it off the other corals, and it is attached!!!!

Thus my question? What the heck is going on. I did note that there is a small branch at the base of it now, 1/2 inch or so, is it splitting?

I would love to take a picture, but the character in my avatar had slobbered our camara to death so I can't do that for a bit.LOL.
Thanks!

I believe Xenia will lay to the side the flow is going to, have you notice if the flow is on the same direction it is laying?

Um, no it acctually leans into the flow. But why would it attach itself to the rock for 5 1/2 inches?

Do you mean, it bend and the part that is now attachon the rock was about 5 1/2 inches from the base?
If so the xenia is on the move! mine moved about 3" from where I originally placed it.

I have seen that our Xenia will lay over when we turn the pumps off to feed. And then yes it attaches quickly to whatever it touches. The particular kind of Xenia I expect that you have (Elongota) grows quite quickly. Keep it in check by pealing it off at its attachment point. If you would like to start another colony just snip off a stalk and attach it via a rubber band or some bridal vaile. the rubber band method works better for larger peices the vail works best for smaller peices.

You might ask around your LFS's they might be interested in a colony or two from time to time. Xenia does not ship well.
