Lawnmower Blenny

In another thread someone recommended a lawnmower blenny for hair algae. I did some reading and one place said they only eat algae as juveniles, but others said they all eat it forever. Can someone help me out? They are soooo cute, I always liked them and we have some hair algae (as well as other algae). Will they only eat the algae on the rocks? We havs some growing on the back of the tank, too.

I can't really promise that it will eat HA, but mine is always nipping on the rocks and glass...I would think if it is algae, it is going to eat it. Mine doesn't eat any prepared food...only munches on what is in the tank.

Oh, and not sure about the goby...probably depends on the size of the tank.

Well, we have plenty of algae in the tank. We've been struggling with it for months. Can't seem to get a handle on it, even with fewer feedings, lots of water changes (prepared salt water from the LFS and RODI to top off), siphoning algae, skimmer seems to be pulling a lot of crap out, etc. It's frustrating.

I feel your pain...I have cyano that keeps coming back...and I use RO/DI, don't feed that much, etc...

But I think a LMB will help you out some...how big is the tank? If it is big enough, my Kole tang is nipping on the rocks (he is the same as my LMB), does not eat prepared food...only what is in the tank.

It's a 45-gallon--too small for a tang. Before we knew better, we did have a sailfin tang in there and she really ate a lot of the algae--especially hair. But she died.

My LMB would put lip marks on any film algae all day long but never hardly touched anything else......he much preferred mysis and would wait until i was looking and run around the tank knocking stuff over if i didnt feed the mysis to him regularly.
