The system I'm trying now, which I've seen in several places, is not all that different from the one Spanky discribed.
It consists of a Utube, pen light on the intake, something to keep the adults out, a small PH in the overflow box, with a small mesh to keep the larvae out of the PH. The key is to get enough surface area on the PH intake so the larvea don't get stuck.

I last night rapped the PH in "bridal veil" material I got from Walmart for about $2.00 a yard. it is fine meshed enough to keep the larvea out, however, I don't like the folds, as larvea could get trapped in them, and plan on creating some sort of box to smooth out the edges.
Utubes are not the best thing, but for short term use they'll do.
right now my "brood tank" is still owned by the LFS, so I've setup my future larval sump to hold my broodstock. I'm still debating weither I'm going to use this system as a temporary thing for when I'm expecting hatchout, or if I'll hook it in permanent to the drilled overflow.
